The Audit Service Commission has announced an Open Competitive Examination for the recruitment of 244 Audit Officers to Class III of Grade II in the field/office-based service category of the Sri Lanka State Audit Service โ€“ 2026.

Applications are invited from eligible Sri Lankan citizens who meet the qualifications specified in the Gazette notification.

The examination will be conducted by the Commissioner General of Examinations. The Audit Service Commission reserves the right to postpone or cancel the examination.

๐Ÿ’ผ Appointment & Service Conditions

The selected candidates will be appointed as Audit Officers in Class III of Grade II of the Sri Lanka State Audit Service.

โœ… This is a permanent and pensionable post.

โœ… Successful applicants will be appointed on three years’ probation.

โœ… Confirmation will depend on satisfactory work, attendance and conduct, together with passing the required Efficiency Bar Examination before completion of the probation period.

โœ… Selected officers may be required to serve in any part of Sri Lanka.

โœ… Officers will also be subject to the relevant Establishments Code, Government Financial Regulations and other applicable government rules, circulars and instructions.

๐Ÿ’ฐ Salary โ€“ Audit Officer 2026

The salary scale for the post is:

Rs. 64,610 โ€“ 10 ร— Rs. 1,190 โ€“ 11 ร— Rs. 1,360 โ€“ 15 ร— Rs. 1,670 โ€“ Rs. 116,520/-

๐Ÿ’ต Initial Salary: Rs. 64,610/-

Salary Code: AS 01โ€“2025

Other government-approved allowances applicable to the post will also be paid.

๐ŸŽ“ Educational Qualifications

Applicants must possess one of the qualifications specified under the relevant Service Minute of the Sri Lanka State Audit Service.

๐Ÿ“š Category 7.2.1.1.1 (a)

Applicants may qualify through one of the following routes:

๐ŸŽ“ A degree related to Accountancy, Commerce, and Business/State Management, with Accountancy or Auditing as a main subject, obtained from a university or degree-awarding institute recognized by the University Grants Commission.

OR

๐Ÿ“– Licentiate II / Intermediate level, Accountancy or Business Certificate II, Business level, Business level II or an above examination of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka.

OR

๐Ÿ“– Management Level or above examination of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka.

OR

๐ŸŽ“ A Higher Diploma or Higher National Diploma in Accountancy or Commerce from the relevant Sri Lankan technical/higher education institutions specified in the Gazette.

๐Ÿ’ป Category 7.2.1.1.1 (b)

Applicants may also qualify with a degree in fields including:

๐Ÿ”น Information Technology
๐Ÿ”น Computer Science
๐Ÿ”น Computer Engineering Science
๐Ÿ”น Computer Technology

The Gazette states that selection under this category is subject to a maximum of 10% of the Audit Officer posts.

๐ŸŽฏ Age Limit

Applicants should be:

๐Ÿ”น Not less than 22 years, and
๐Ÿ”น Not more than 28 years

as at the closing date of applications, 12 October 2026.

The Gazette specifies the relevant birth-date range as 12 October 1998 to 12 October 2004, inclusive of the stated limits.

For officers already in the public service, the age should not exceed 45 years.

๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ฐ Other Requirements

โœ… Have an excellent moral character
โœ… Not be a member of the clergy of any religion
โœ… Satisfy all required qualifications by the closing date of applications.

The Gazette states that the full examination fee must be paid. Applications involving overpayment or underpayment will be rejected, and the examination fee will not be refunded or transferred to another examination.

๐Ÿ“ Audit Officer Examination 2026

The examination will be conducted in Sinhala, Tamil and English.

Applicants must sit the examination in the language medium permitted under the Gazette provisions relating to their qualifying examination. All question papers must be answered in the same language.

Applicants applying under 7.2.1.1.1 (a) must sit for three question papers, including the IQ paper and at least one of Financial Accountancy or Auditing.

Applicants applying under 7.2.1.1.1 (b) must sit for three question papers, including the IQ paper. The application must clearly state the relevant category, and this cannot subsequently be changed.

๐Ÿ“Š Minimum Marks Required

Applicants must obtain:

๐ŸŽฏ At least 40% for each question paper, and
๐ŸŽฏ An overall average of at least 50% for the written examination

to be eligible to be called for the interview.

The general interview is conducted to verify educational qualifications and service records. No marks are awarded for the interview.

๐Ÿ† Selection for Appointment

Selection will be based on the total marks obtained for the three relevant question papers in the written examination.

Applicants with the highest marks will be selected according to the provisions of the Gazette.

The Gazette also provides for selection, subject to a maximum of 10% of vacancies, of applicants with relevant degrees in areas such as Valuation, Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering and Computer Technology.

Applicants must present their admission and prove their identity at the examination hall.

Applicants must also comply with the examination hall rules concerning identity verification and electronic communication devices.

Applicants should carefully verify their qualifications before submitting the application.

If it is later found that an applicant does not possess the required qualifications, the candidature may be cancelled at any stage.

The Gazette also states that deliberately providing false information or intentionally suppressing important facts may result in dismissal from Government service.
