The Public Service Commission has announced a Limited Competitive Examination for recruitment to the post of Assistant Commissioner of Labour (Departmental), Executive Service Category โ€“ Grade III of the Department of Labour, Ministry of Labour.

A total of 09 vacancies are available under the limited stream. Applications are invited from eligible Labour Officers (Grade I) who are in active service as at 23 October 2026.

๐ŸŽฏ Who Can Apply?

This examination is specifically intended for serving Labour Officers (Grade I) of the Department of Labour.

Applicants must have completed an active and satisfactory period of 10 years of service as a Labour Officer and must be a Labour Officer in Grade I.

Applicants should:

โœ… Be a citizen of Sri Lanka
โœ… Possess an excellent moral character
โœ… Have been confirmed in the post of Labour Officer
โœ… Have achieved a satisfactory or higher performance level during the preceding five years
โœ… Have earned all increments during the preceding five years
โœ… Have completed the prescribed Efficiency Bar Examinations
โœ… Not have been subjected to disciplinary punishment under the relevant Public Service Commission provisions
โœ… Fulfil all qualifications specified in the recruitment scheme by the closing date of applications
โœ… Be physically and mentally fit to serve in any part of Sri Lanka

๐Ÿ’ฐ Salary Scale

The monthly salary scale applicable to the post, according to Public Administration Circular No. 10/2025 dated 25 March 2025, is:

๐Ÿ’ต Rs. 82,150 โ€“ 10 ร— Rs. 2,400 โ€“ 8 ร— Rs. 2,940 โ€“ 17 ร— Rs. 3,900 โ€“ Rs. 195,970

The salary will be paid in accordance with the relevant provisions of the circular.

๐Ÿ“ Written Examination

The written examination will be conducted by the Commissioner General of Examinations, Department of Examinations, Sri Lanka.

The examination will be held in Sinhala, Tamil and English. Applicants must answer all three papers in the language medium selected in the application, and the language medium cannot subsequently be changed.

๐Ÿง  General Intelligence

The General Intelligence paper is designed to assess candidates’ comprehension and intelligence through conclusions and responses relating to problems presented in numerical, linguistic and figurative structures.

This paper assesses management-related abilities, including:

๐Ÿ”น Decision-making
๐Ÿ”น Maintaining interpersonal relationships

๐ŸŽค Structured Interview

Only candidates who pass the written examination will be eligible for the structured interview.

The candidates who obtain the highest combined marks from the written examination and structured interview will be selected according to the number of vacancies.

Marks may be awarded for additional active and satisfactory service beyond the basic 10-year service requirement. Marks for additional service are awarded only for a service period of six months or more, according to the provisions stated in the notification.

๐Ÿ“Œ Every applicant must have their signature certified by the Head of the Division/Office where they work before sitting the examination.

๐Ÿ“Œ The Public Service Commission may decline to appoint an eligible candidate where the candidate is considered ineligible under the regulations in force or has unsatisfactory work performance.
