The Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) invites applications from experienced and dynamic Medical or Dental professionals/academics to join the Pool of Examiners for the Examination for Registration to Practise Medicine (ERPM).

The appointed examiners will be involved in conducting ERPM and ERPD examinations conducted by the Examination Unit of the Sri Lanka Medical Council.

🎓 Eligibility Criteria for Examiners

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

👨‍⚕️ Specialist Qualification

At the time of application, applicants should be Board Certified Specialists in one of the following specialties or a subspecialty coming under the relevant main specialty:

• 🩺 Medicine
• 🏥 Surgery
• 👶 Paediatrics
• 🤰 Obstetrics and Gynaecology
• 🧠 Psychiatry
• 🏘️ Community Medicine
• ⚖️ Forensic Medicine

📋 Other Requirements

Applicants should also:

• ✅ Possess active registration in the Specialist Register of the SLMC.
• 🎓 Be PGIM Board Certified for at least 3 years prior to the date of application.
• 📝 Have previous experience as an examiner in the final examination of a State University or the ERPM.
• 👨‍⚕️ Have been in active state health service or university service for more than 3 years.
• 🎂 Be under 75 years of age. This age limit may be extended with written justifiable reasons approved by the Council.
• ⚠️ Have no previous adverse incidents related to medical examinations.

⏳ Term of Appointment

The term of appointment will be two years.

However, the advertisement also specifies circumstances under which an examiner’s appointment may be terminated.

📚 Job Description of Examiners

Selected examiners will be expected to perform several examination-related duties, including:

📝 Examination Duties

• Declare any conflict of interest at the time of appointment.
• Inform the Council of any conflicts that may arise during the appointment.
• Serve as examiners for the written and OSCE components of examinations.
• Develop an examination question bank for ERPM Part 1 or ERPM Part 2.
• Coordinate an assigned component of the examination.
• Participate as an examiner for Part II (OSCE).
• Supervise examinations and perform other essential examination duties.

🚪 Termination of Appointment

The appointment may be terminated in the following circumstances:

• 🔹 Voluntary resignation due to personal reasons or conflicts of interest.
• 🔹 Completion of 5 years from the date of appointment, unless renewed.
• 🔹 The examiner reaching 75 years of age, unless the appointment is extended annually with Council approval.
• 🔹 Removal by the Council due to adverse performance or behaviour as an examiner.
• 🔹 Removal due to a conflict of interest.

💰 Remuneration

Examiners will be paid according to the rates approved by the Sri Lanka Medical Council for the services provided.
