The Gazette states that the appointment will be made from candidates who satisfy the required qualifications and obtain the highest marks at the structured interview conducted by an interview board appointed by the Public Services Commission.
⚖️ Main Duties of the Legal Officer
The selected Legal Officer will be responsible for a range of legal duties connected with the Department of Agrarian Development.
📋 Key responsibilities include:
🔹 Providing legal consultations to District Offices and Agrarian Development Centres.
🔹 Preparing legal documents such as draft bills, regulations, observation reports and proxies.
🔹 Coordinating with the Department of Attorney General regarding legal matters and court cases.
🔹 Taking action regarding complaints concerning human rights violations.
🔹 Providing legal advice regarding court cases involving officers and institutions under the Department of Agrarian Development.
🔹 Appearing before courts in relevant cases.
🔹 Providing guidance regarding action under relevant provisions of the Establishments Code.
🔹 Performing other duties assigned by the Commissioner General of Agrarian Development.
🎓 Educational & Professional Qualifications
Applicants should have taken oath as an Attorney-at-Law at the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka.
💼 Experience Requirement
Candidates should have either:
✅ At least 03 years of active and professional experience after taking oath as an Attorney-at-Law at the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka;
OR
✅ At least 03 years of experience in a legal post in a public institution after taking oath as an Attorney-at-Law at the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka.
The Gazette specifies the types of legal work that may be considered, including court-case coordination, legal affairs connected with agreements, laws and ordinances, preparation of legal documents, and matters relating to statutory institutions, court cases or investigations.
📌 Candidates must submit certified copies of documents proving their basic qualifications. Documents that do not clearly show the commencement and termination dates of service may be rejected.

💰 Salary Scale
The monthly salary scale for the Legal Officer Grade III post is:

🎂 Age Limit
Applicants should be:
🔹 Minimum age: 21 years
🔹 Maximum age: 45 years

🏛️ Conditions of Appointment
The post is stated to be permanent and pensionable, subject to the Government’s applicable pension policy and relevant contributions.
The appointment is also subject to a 03-year probationary period. The selected candidate is required to pass the first efficiency bar examination prescribed under the relevant scheme of recruitment within three years from the date of recruitment.
Other conditions include the requirement to acquire competency in other official language/s according to the applicable Public Administration Circular and compliance with the Public Services Commission procedural rules, Establishments Code, Financial Regulations and relevant scheme of recruitment.
📝 Selection & Interview
Eligible applicants will be called for a structured interview conducted by an interview board appointed by the Public Services Commission.

The total available marks are 100.
Candidates called for the interview must produce the originals of their certificates together with copies certified by the candidate. A valid National Identity Card or passport is accepted as proof of identity.
