๐ 2027 Full Time Apprenticeship Training Programmes by Automobile Engineering Training Institute โ Orugodawatta (Japan Tec)
The Automobile Engineering Training Institute โ Orugodawatta (Japan Tec) is calling applications from eligible Sri Lankan applicants for its 2027 full-time apprenticeship training programmes.
The institute operates under the National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA) and offers practical and theoretical training in several motor vehicle engineering and technical fields. The programme is based on the JapanโSri Lanka friendship initiative and provides opportunities for young people to develop valuable technical and vocational skills.
๐ 2027 Apprenticeship Courses Available
The following full-time daytime courses are available for the 2027 intake:

๐ Educational Qualifications
For the Automobile Technician course, applicants should have passed six subjects at the G.C.E. (O/L) examination, including Sinhala, Mathematics and Science, with the required passes obtained within no more than two attempts.
For the Automobile Tinker and Automobile Painter courses, applicants should have successfully completed Grade 8 at a government school or a school recognized by the government.
The ICT Technician course requires six G.C.E. (O/L) passes, including Sinhala, English and Mathematics, within no more than two attempts.
๐ค Age Requirement
Applicants must be Sri Lankan citizens aged between 16 and 25 years as at 1 January 2027.
Both male and female applicants are eligible to apply.
Selected applicants from low-income or economically disadvantaged families may also be considered for scholarship opportunities.
๐ญ NVQ-Based Practical Training
All courses are conducted according to competency-based training under the National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) framework, using a dual-training approach.
For the three-year programmes, the initial institutional training is followed by industrial training at organizations in the motor vehicle sector. This allows apprentices to develop their theoretical knowledge, practical skills and professional attitudes through workplace experience.

The Machinist / CNC programme includes training in areas such as:

- ๐ป CAM programming
- ๐ฉ Lathe machining
- โ๏ธ Head facing
- ๐ง Boring
- ๐ ๏ธ Honing
- ๐ Crank grinding
- ๐งฐ Tool cutter grinding
These areas provide practical exposure relevant to the motor vehicle engineering field.

๐ NVQ Level 4 Certificate
Apprentices who successfully complete their training and pass the final assessments will receive a certificate from the Automobile Engineering Training Institute together with the internationally recognized National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 4 certificate awarded by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission.
๐ How Applicants Are Selected
Applicants who meet the required educational qualifications must sit for a one-hour aptitude written examination, which includes:

- ๐ง General knowledge
Candidates will be selected for interviews according to their marks and priority in the written examination.
The written examination may be taken in Sinhala or English, while the course of study is conducted in Sinhala medium.
๐ณ Examination Fee
Applicants must pay an examination fee of Rs. 1,000.
According to the notice, the payment receipt must be attached to the application. Online payments and CDM payments are not accepted, and the depositor’s name and NIC number should be included on the receipt.

Applications must reach the institute on or before 30 September 2026. Applicants are advised to send their applications early because the institute will not be responsible for applications lost or delayed in the post.

๐น Applicants who are currently receiving full-time training under NAITA are not eligible to apply.
๐น Applicants with hearing or speech disabilities may apply only for courses 1.2.1.4, 1.5, 1.6 and 1.7, according to the notice.
