IETI Moratuwa Apprentice Recruitment 2027 – Applications Open for 13 Courses
📢 Applications are invited for the January 2027 batch of full-time technical courses at the Industrial Engineering Training Institute (IETI), Moratuwa.
The National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA), under the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education, has announced the recruitment of apprentices for 13 technical and vocational training courses.
The Industrial Engineering Training Institute (IETI), Moratuwa, is a joint project between Sri Lanka and Germany. These courses combine theoretical education with practical training to develop technical skills relevant to local and international employment opportunities.
🎓 Students who successfully complete their training will receive a full-time course certificate from IETI and the relevant National Vocational Qualification (NVQ Level 4) certificate issued by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC).

Course Fee: Rs. 60,000
Duration: 2 Years
Main subjects include:
- Connecting PVC, CPVC, GI, PB and PPR pipes used in the construction industry
- Installing modern sanitary equipment
- Installing water pumps

- Reading and preparing plans
- Preparing estimates
🎓 3. Educational Qualifications and Entry Requirements
Applicants must meet the educational requirements applicable to their preferred courses.
📘 Courses 01–05
Applicants must satisfy one of the following requirements:
Option 1: G.C.E. Ordinary Level (O/L)
- Pass at least six subjects, including Sinhala Language, Science and Mathematics.
- Obtain a Credit pass in Mathematics or Science.
OR
Option 2: G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L)
- Pass any two subjects, including Science, Technology or Engineering Technology, at the G.C.E. A/L examination.
- Successfully complete six subjects at the G.C.E. O/L examination, including Sinhala Language, Science and Mathematics.
❄️ Courses 06–07
Applicants must have passed at least six subjects at the G.C.E. O/L examination, including:
- Sinhala Language
- Mathematics
💻 Courses 08–09
Applicants must:
- Have passed six subjects at the G.C.E. O/L examination, including Sinhala Language and Mathematics.
- Have passed English Language at the G.C.E. O/L or A/L examination.
- Have completed a basic computer course.
🔧 Courses 10–12
Applicants must have studied at least up to the G.C.E. O/L level.
🚰 Course 13 – Plumber
Applicants must have studied at least up to Grade 8.
📌 Special Needs Applicants: Applicants with special needs, including hearing and speech impairments, may apply for Courses 01, 02, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09, 10, 11, 12 and 13. Course 03 is not included in the Gazette’s list of courses available to applicants with special needs.
🎂 4. Age Limit
Applicants must be:
- At least 16 years old.
- Not more than 35 years old.
The age requirement is calculated as of 31 December 2026.
💰 5. Course Fees and Financial Assistance
The course fees range from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 150,000, depending on the selected course.
The Gazette provides the following financial information:
- 💳 Course fees may be paid in installments.
- 🎓 Applicants from low-income families may follow the courses free of charge, subject to the applicable eligibility conditions.
- 💵 Students from low-income families are eligible for a monthly allowance of Rs. 7,500, as stated in the Gazette.

- 💵 A monthly allowance of Rs. 7,500 for students from low-income families.
🏭 7. Training Method and Qualifications
The courses follow a dual training system.
The training consists of:
- Institutional Training: The first half of the programme.
- On-the-Job Training: The second half of the programme, conducted in government or recognised private factories.
Courses are conducted in both Sinhala and English.
After successfully completing the programme, apprentices will receive:
- A full-time course certificate issued by the Industrial Engineering Training Institute.
- The relevant NVQ Level 4 certificate issued by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC).
📝 8. How to Apply for IETI Moratuwa Courses
Follow the application procedure below.
Step 1: Prepare the Application
Prepare an application on A4-sized paper or download the application form from the official NAITA website.

Step 2: Pay the Application Fee
Pay Rs. 1,000 to the following bank account:
- Bank: People’s Bank
- Branch: Katubedda
- Account Number: 313100153656984
The payment receipt must clearly indicate the applicant’s name and National Identity Card (NIC) number.
Attach the original payment receipt to the application and keep a photocopy for your records.
Step 3: Prepare the Required Documents
Include the following documents:
- A completed application.
- A photocopy of the applicant’s National Identity Card.
- A self-addressed, stamped envelope.
- The original bank payment receipt.
Step 4: Select Three Preferred Courses
Applicants must indicate three preferred courses in order of priority, according to their educational qualifications.
Make sure that you meet the entry requirements for the courses you select.
Step 5: Send the Application by Registered Post
Send the completed application and required documents to:

Applications must be received by the institute before 15 October 2026.
Applicants are advised to post their applications well in advance. The institute will not be responsible for applications lost or delayed in the mail.
🧪 9. Selection Procedure
The selection process depends on the number of applications received for each course.
If the number of applications exceeds the expected intake, eligible applicants will be required to sit for a written aptitude test.
Final selection will be made through an interview.
