๐Ÿ“ข Applications are now invited for the Open Competitive Examination for recruitment to the post of Inspector of Customs, Grade II of the Department of Sri Lanka Customs.

The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development has published the recruitment notification for Inspector of Customs, Grade II โ€“ 2026. Applications are accepted online only through the Department of Examinations.

The examination is scheduled to be conducted by the Commissioner General of Examinations in December 2026. The exact examination date will be announced later.

๐ŸŽ“ Educational Qualifications

Applicants should have:

โœ… Passed three main subjects at the GCE Advanced Level (A/L) examination in one sitting.

AND

โœ… Passed six subjects at the GCE Ordinary Level (O/L) examination, including:

  • Credit passes for Sinhala/Tamil Language
  • Credit pass for Mathematics
  • At least a simple pass in English
  • The required O/L subjects must have been passed in not more than two sittings.

๐Ÿ‘ค Age & Citizenship Requirements

Applicants must:

๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ฐ Be a citizen of Sri Lanka.

โญ Be of excellent moral character.

๐ŸŽ‚ Be not less than 18 years and not more than 24 years of age on the closing date of applications.

According to the Gazette, applicants born on or before 12 October 2008 or on or after 12 October 2002 are eligible to apply, subject to the other requirements.

โš ๏ธ Important: Persons ordained in any religious sect are not permitted to sit for this examination.

๐Ÿ’ช Physical Fitness Requirements

๐Ÿ‘จ Male Applicants

  • Minimum height: 5 feet 5 inches
  • Minimum chest measurement: 33 inches when expanded

๐Ÿ‘ฉ Female Applicants

  • Minimum height: 5 feet 3 inches

๐Ÿ’ฐ Salary โ€“ Inspector of Customs Grade II

The salary scale is given under Public Administration Circular No. 10/2025 as:

๐Ÿ’ต Rs. 49,550 โ€“ 7 ร— Rs. 540 โ€“ 27 ร— Rs. 670 โ€“ Rs. 71,420

The post is permanent and selected applicants will be appointed subject to a three-year probation period.

๐Ÿ• Conditions of Service

Selected applicants:

๐Ÿ”น Must undergo a medical examination by a Government Medical Officer.

๐Ÿ”น Must be physically fit to serve in any part of Sri Lanka.

๐Ÿ”น May be required to work day and night shifts.

๐Ÿ”น Are required to serve in any part of the island.

๐Ÿง  Aptitude Test

The paper contains 50 questions, including multiple-choice and short-answer questions designed to test language skills and logical ability.

โž— Mathematics

The paper tests the mathematical skills of applicants and consists of structured-type questions.

๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง English Language

The paper tests reading, writing, comprehension and communication skills.

๐ŸŒ Examination Medium

The examination will be conducted in:

๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฑ Sinhala
เฎคเฎฎเฎฟเฎดเฏ Tamil
๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง English

Applicants generally have to sit the examination in the same medium in which they passed the qualifying examination. Certain applicants who qualified through Tamil or English may choose Sinhala, subject to the conditions stated in the Gazette. The selected examination medium cannot subsequently be changed.

๐Ÿ“Š Examination Pass Mark & Interview

A minimum of 60% must be obtained for each question paper to pass the examination.

Applicants who obtain 60% or more in each paper will be considered for selection to the structured interview according to the procedure specified in the Gazette.

The structured interview includes consideration of sports skills, for which 10 marks are allocated.

Final selection will be made from applicants who pass the written examination and qualify at the interview, subject to the number of vacancies approved by the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development.

If sufficient applicants are not available for a particular centre, applicants may be assigned to their second-choice centre or another nearby centre. The Gazette also states that the examination may ultimately be held only in Colombo if sufficient centres cannot be established.

The examination fee is Rs. 600/-.

The full examination fee must be paid. Applications with an incorrect payment amount may be rejected. The examination fee is not refundable or transferable to another examination.

๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ How to Apply Online

Applications must be completed online and in English.

Applicants should:

1๏ธโƒฃ Visit the Department of Examinations online application system.

2๏ธโƒฃ Select the relevant recruitment examination.

3๏ธโƒฃ Carefully read the common application instructions.

4๏ธโƒฃ Complete the application accurately.

5๏ธโƒฃ Pay the Rs. 600/- examination fee using one of the permitted methods.

6๏ธโƒฃ Submit the completed application before the deadline.

7๏ธโƒฃ Keep the payment receipt and a copy of the completed application for future reference.

Incomplete applications will be rejected without notice. Applicants will be informed through SMS or email regarding acceptance or non-acceptance of the online application.

Do not wait until the final day to submit your application. The Gazette states that applicants bear the consequences of delays in submitting applications before the closing date.

๐ŸŽซ Admission Cards

Admission cards will be issued online to applicants who have paid the prescribed fee and submitted properly completed applications before the closing date.

โš ๏ธ An admission card does not by itself confirm that the applicant has fulfilled all eligibility requirements.

Candidates must bring the required attested admission card to the examination hall.

Applicants called for the interview should be prepared to provide documents proving their eligibility.

๐Ÿ“„ Proof of Sri Lankan citizenship

Applicants are advised to keep the required documents ready when submitting the application. Failure to provide required documents may result in disqualification from appointment.

โš ๏ธ Important Notice to Applicants

Providing false information or concealing relevant information can result in cancellation of candidature. The Gazette states that candidature may be cancelled before, during or after the examination, and a person already appointed may be dismissed if relevant disqualification or false information is subsequently discovered.
