🎓 Required Educational & Professional Qualifications
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
- ⚖️ Should have been sworn in as an Attorney at Law (AAL) in the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka.
- 🎓 Possession of a Law Degree (LLB) recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
- 📚 Any other postgraduate qualification will be considered an additional qualification.
🧑⚖️ Required Experience
Candidates should fulfill one of the following experience requirements:
- Have active professional and prosecutorial experience of not less than three (03) years after being sworn in as an Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka.
OR
- Have not less than three (03) years’ experience in a legal post involving prosecutions in a state institution after being sworn in as an Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka.
For the second option, the relevant experience should be confirmed by a letter issued by the Secretary/Head of the relevant Department or Institution.
ℹ️ A legal post means a post where a Law Degree or being sworn in as an Attorney-at-Law is a basic recruitment qualification.
🧠 Physical & Mental Fitness
Every candidate should be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties associated with the position.
📋 Duties & Responsibilities
The selected Legal Officer will be responsible for:
- ⚖️ Prosecuting disciplinary inquiries, including leading evidence, cross-examination, re-examination and filing closing submissions.
- 📚 Assisting in all legal and legislative matters connected with the SLMC under the guidance of the Head-Legal.
- 📝 Handling RTI applications and complaints received by the Sri Lanka Medical Council.
- 📩 Attending to general correspondence as assigned by the Head-Legal.
- 🔎 Performing any other duties assigned by the Head-Legal.
⏰ Terms of Employment
The appointment will be made on a part-time assignment basis for one year. The appointment may be extended for another year with the approval of the Council.
The selected candidate will have to report for duty for two (02) days per week, for a maximum of eight (08) days per month.
📌 The responsibilities and duties of the position will be provided to the selected candidate as the Terms of Reference.
💰 Salary
The salary and other emoluments will be determined by the Sri Lanka Medical Council.
🎂 Age Limit
Applicants should be not more than 60 years of age on the closing date for applications.
