The National Engineering Research & Development Centre of Sri Lanka (NERDC), under the Ministry of Science and Technology, has announced a vacancy for the post of Director General – HM 2-3.
NERDC is a premier government engineering research and development organization involved in multidisciplinary engineering research, innovation, technology development and commercialization.

🎓 Qualifications and Experience
👨💼 For External Candidates
Applicants should possess one of the following academic and professional qualification combinations:
Option 1:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering of 4 years duration with 1st Class or 2nd Class Upper Division from a university recognized by the University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka.
- AND Corporate Membership (Charter) of a professional body recognized by the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka.
- OR a Postgraduate Degree at Master Level.
OR
Option 2:
- Bachelor’s Degree of 4 years duration in Engineering from a university recognized by the University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka.
- AND a Postgraduate Degree at Master level.
- AND Corporate Membership (Charter) of a professional body recognized by the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka.
💼 Required Experience
External candidates should have:
- 20 years of experience after obtaining the first degree in a reputed organization.
- At least 10 years of experience at Senior Management level.
- At least 5 years of post-charter experience.
🏢 For Internal Candidates
Internal candidates should have:
- Five (05) years of experience as a Deputy Director General at NERDC.
🎂 Age Limit
Candidates should be not less than 30 years and not more than 50 years of age.
The upper age limit will not apply to internal candidates and employees of Government Corporations, Boards and the Public Sector, according to the vacancy notice.
💰 Salary and Allowances
The selected candidate will be appointed under the following salary scale:
💵 HM 2-3 – 2025
Rs. 173,000 – 12 × Rs. 4,850 – Rs. 231,200
Salary will be paid according to Management Services Department Circular No. 01/2025, together with all applicable Government-approved allowances.
These include:

- 📱 Communication Allowance
- 🏠 Cost of Living Allowance
- ➕ Other applicable Government-approved allowances
🎁 Other Benefits
Selected candidates may receive the following benefits:
- 🏦 NERDC contributes 15% of salary to the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF), while the employee contributes 10%.
- 🏦 NERDC contributes 3% of salary to the Employees’ Trust Fund (ETF).
- 🚗 Assigned vehicle maintained by NERDC or Government-approved transport allowance of Rs. 50,000.
- ⛽ Fuel allowance according to relevant Government circulars.
- 🏥 Reimbursement of medical bills under the approved NERDC Medical Scheme.
- 🎁 Other Government-approved allowances and privileges according to relevant Government circulars.
