🏛️ Superintendent of Works Vacancies 2026 – Land Commissioner General’s Department

The Land Commissioner General’s Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation has announced an Open Competitive Examination for recruitment to Grade III of the post of Superintendent of Works in the Supervisory Management Assistant Technical Service category.

There are two (02) vacancies available under this recruitment. Selection will be made based on the results of a written examination and a general interview.

The Gazette states that the monthly consolidated salary scale is Rs. 52,250-10×800-11×1190-10×1320-10×1350-100,040/-, under Salary Code MN3 – 2025.

🎓 Educational Qualifications

Applicants should have passed the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination in one and the same sitting in three Science subjects, including:

  • ➗ Combined Mathematics
  • ⚛️ Physics
  • 🧪 Chemistry
  • ⚙️ Engineering Technology

The applicant must select Combined Mathematics and any two of Physics, Chemistry or Engineering Technology.

Applicants should also have passed the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination in one and the same sitting with passes in six subjects, including Credit passes in:

  • 🗣️ Sinhala / Tamil / English Language
  • 🔬 Science
  • ➗ Mathematics
  • 📚 One other subject

🛠️ Professional Qualifications

Candidates should possess one of the following professional qualifications:

  • 🎓 National Diploma in Technology (NDT) awarded by the University of Moratuwa or Hardy Advanced Technological Institute, Ampara
  • 🎓 National Diploma in Engineering Sciences awarded by NAITA
  • 🎓 Higher National Diploma in Engineering awarded by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education
  • 🎓 Diploma in Technology awarded by the Open University of Sri Lanka
  • 🏗️ Successful completion of Part I of the Engineering Examination conducted by the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL)
  • 🛠️ National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 6 relevant to the field of employment
  • 📜 Any other technical qualification recognized by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC) as equivalent to the qualifications listed above, subject to the conditions specified in the Gazette.

🎂 Age Limit

Applicants should be:

  • ✅ Not less than 18 years
  • ✅ Not more than 30 years

of age as at the closing date for applications.

According to the Gazette, eligible applicants should have dates of birth on or before 05.10.2008 and on or after 05.10.1996.

🇱🇰 Other Qualifications

Applicants should:

  • 🇱🇰 Be a citizen of Sri Lanka
  • ⭐ Be of excellent moral character
  • 💪 Be physically and mentally fit to serve in any part of the island

💼 Conditions of Service

The post is permanent and pensionable.

Selected officers will be required to complete a three-year probation period. Officers will also be required to acquire proficiency in the other official language within three years of joining the service, in addition to the language medium through which they entered the service.

📝 Written Examination

The examination will be conducted by an institution approved by the Land Commissioner General and will be held only in Colombo on a date determined by the head of that institution.

The examination will be conducted in:

  • 🇱🇰 Sinhala medium
  • 🇱🇰 Tamil medium

Candidates cannot change the examination language medium selected in their application at a later stage. All questions must be answered in the same language.

  • Lintels and corbels
  • Mortar mixes
  • Cement plastering
  • Concrete mixing
  • Jointing, pointing, plastering and rendering
  • Cutting chases
  • Fixing wall plates and bracing
  • Tile, asbestos, corrugated and aluminium roofing
  • Sinhala tiles
  • Flat concrete roofs

🎨 Painting

The syllabus includes:

  • Paint finishes
  • Wall coatings
  • Timber finishing
  • Varnishing
  • Anti-corrosive painting

🛣️ Roads

Candidates should have knowledge of:

  • Setting out and construction of culverts
  • Retaining walls
  • Road construction materials
  • Road foundations
  • Stone laying
  • Tarring
  • Gravel surfacing
  • Surface water drainage

🚰 Basic Water Supply and Drainage

Topics include:

  • Water supply and waste pipe installation for small buildings
  • Soakage pits
  • Water-sealed sanitary fittings
  • Water tanks
  • Wells and related areas

⚡ Electrical Engineering Process

The technical examination also includes the Electrical Engineering Process section.

🗣️ General Interview

Candidates equal to the expected number of recruits will be called for the general interview in order of merit.

Only candidates who obtain 40% or more for each subject in the written examination will be considered for the interview.

⚠️ No marks will be awarded for the interview.

The interview is conducted to verify candidates’ certificates and physical qualifications.

💵 Examination Fee

The examination fee is Rs. 500.00.

The fee should be deposited through any branch of the Bank of Ceylon to:

✍️ Signature Attestation

The applicant’s signature on both the application and admission card must be attested by an authorized person.

The Gazette specifies different categories of authorized persons, including a Justice of the Peace, Commissioner for Oaths, Attorney-at-Law, Notary Public, Principal of a Government School, authorized public servant, commissioned officer of the tri-forces or gazetted officer of the Police Service.

🎫 Admission Cards

Admission cards will be issued to eligible candidates who have submitted duly completed applications and the required examination fee receipt before the closing date.

A notice regarding the issuance of admission cards will be published on the website of the Land Commissioner General’s Department.

Candidates must produce their duly attested admission card at the examination centre. Candidates who fail to produce the admission card will not be permitted to sit the examination.

📊 Examination Results

The institution conducting the examination will submit the results of candidates who obtain 40% or more in each subject, arranged according to merit.

Candidates who sit the examination will also be individually notified of their results.
