Salary and Benefits
Selected candidates will receive the following salary package:
- Salary Code: 6.3 (SG3)
- Initial Salary Step: Rs. 53,425/=
- Annual Increment: Rs. 1,150/=
- Approximate Monthly Gross Salary: Rs. 128,000/=
Additional government employment benefits include:

- Permanent appointment status
Educational Qualifications
Applicants must have:
G.C.E. (O/L) Requirements
Passed the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination in six (06) subjects, including:
- Language
- Mathematics
The examination should be completed in not more than two sittings.
Professional Qualifications
Candidates must possess:
- A certificate for not less than 1000 Horse Power (750KW) issued by the Director General of Merchant Shipping of Sri Lanka under the 1907 Launch Ordinance.
AND
- National Certificate of Technology (NCT) in the Mechanical or Shipping Sector,
OR
- A three-year full-time course certificate issued by a Government Institute,
OR
- A certificate issued by an Industrial or Vocational Training Institute recognized by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC),
OR
- An equivalent recognized qualification.
Experience Requirements
Applicants should have:
- Minimum three (03) years of experience as a Head Driver (Dredger) in:
- A Government Institution, or
- A recognized Private Institution in a similar position.
Additional Mandatory Requirements
Successful applicants must complete and submit certificates for the following training programs within one year of recruitment:
- Fire Extinguishing and Fire Prevention
- General Security
- First Aid
- Marine English
- Self-Defense Techniques
Age Limit
Applicants should be:
- Between 18 and 45 years of age
Note: The upper age limit does not apply to applicants already serving in Government service.
Selection Process
Candidates will be required to:
- Attend an interview.
- Pass a practical test relevant to the position.
- Undergo a medical examination if required by the Interview Board.
