Senior Lecturer vacancies are available for Sinhala and Tamil mediums. Lecturer II vacancies are also divided between the two mediums.
🎓 1. Additional Director General (Academic) – 01 Vacancy
Age limit: 25–55 years. The maximum age limit does not apply to applicants currently employed in the public service, provincial public service or state statutory boards.
Qualifications for External Applicants
Applicants should have:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences.
- A postgraduate degree in Social Work recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
- At least 15 years of senior management experience in a government or public institution, with at least three years of that experience gained after obtaining the postgraduate degree in Social Work.
- Experience managing programmes in social services, social welfare or social development is an additional professional qualification.
- Membership in a professional social work body is also specified.
Qualifications for Internal Candidates
Internal candidates should have:
- A very good service record.
- At least three years of experience in a senior management position at the National Institute of Social Development.
- Relevant programme-management experience and membership in a professional social work body as specified in the Gazette.

- Salary scale: HM 2-1 (2025)
- Salary range: Rs. 161,140 – Rs. 219,340
- Basic salary up to 31 December 2026: Rs. 140,317

👩🏫 2. Senior Lecturer – 03 Vacancies
Medium: Sinhala – 02 vacancies; Tamil – 01 vacancy.
Age limit: 30–55 years. The maximum age limit does not apply to internal applicants.
Qualifications for External Applicants
Applicants must meet one of the following routes:
Route 1
- A special degree in Social Work or Social Sciences from a UGC-recognized university.
- A postgraduate degree in Social Work or Social Sciences obtained through research.
- At least eight years of teaching experience after obtaining the first degree in a government institution, state corporation, board, statutory body or recognized private institution.
Route 2
- A special degree in Social Work or Social Sciences from a UGC-recognized university.
- A PhD in Social Work or Social Sciences.
- At least five years of teaching experience after obtaining the first degree in an eligible institution.
Qualifications for Internal Applicants
Internal applicants may qualify through one of the routes specified in the Gazette, including:
- Meeting the qualifications for external applicants; or
- Holding a relevant degree and research-based postgraduate qualification, together with at least eight years of satisfactory service as a lecturer in the Academic/Research service category (AR-1); or
- Holding a relevant degree and PhD, together with at least five years of satisfactory service as a lecturer in the AR-1 category.

📚 3. Lecturer II – 06 Vacancies
Medium: Sinhala – 04 vacancies; Tamil – 02 vacancies.

Educational Qualifications for External Applicants
Applicants must possess one of the following:
- A four-year degree in Social Work or a special Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences recognized by the UGC; or
- A UGC-recognized Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or Social Sciences together with a postgraduate diploma in the relevant field of study.
Internal applicants must meet the external educational qualifications specified in the Gazette.

- Social Sciences

- Salary range: Rs. 53,940 – Rs. 94,980
- Basic salary up to 31 December 2026: Rs. 49,831

🎥 5. Audio Visual Technician III – 01 Vacancy
Age limit: 18–45 years. The maximum age limit does not apply to internal applicants.
Educational Qualifications
External applicants must possess a Certificate of Proficiency in Audio-Visual Technical Skills of at least NVQ Level 5, issued by a technical or vocational training institution recognized by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC).
Internal applicants must meet the external qualifications specified in the Gazette.

- Salary scale: MA 2-2 (2025)
- Salary range: Rs. 50,540 – Rs. 90,270
- Basic salary up to 31 December 2026: Rs. 46,960
- The stated salary scheme applies from 1 January 2027.
📝 General Conditions of Employment
According to the Gazette, applicants must satisfy the following general conditions:
- Must be a citizen of Sri Lanka.
- Must possess the physical and mental fitness necessary to perform the assigned duties and serve anywhere in Sri Lanka.
- Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) contributions will be made according to government-approved percentages.
- The appointments are subject to a three-year probationary period.
- The terms of service are governed by the National Institute of Social Development Act, No. 41 of 1992, and applicable government rules and regulations.
