📢 Department of National Museums Vacancies 2026 – The Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs has published a Gazette notification calling applications for recruitment to posts in the Supervisory Management Assistant (Technical) Officer Service Category (MN-3-2025) of the Department of National Museums.
Applications are invited from eligible Sri Lankan citizens for the posts of Geology Assistant and Technician (Electrical). The closing date for applications is 30 September 2026.

The recruitment will be conducted on the basis of a written examination and a general interview. Only candidates who satisfy the required qualifications will be called for the written examination.
🪨 Geology Assistant – Qualifications
🎓 Educational Qualifications
Applicants for the Geology Assistant post should have:
- Passed the G.C.E. (Ordinary Level) Examination in six subjects at one sitting.
- Credit passes in Sinhala/Tamil/English Language, Mathematics and two other subjects.
- Passed the G.C.E. (Advanced Level) Examination in at least two subjects, excluding the Common General Test, in the Biology stream.
- Under the old syllabus, passes in three subjects are required.
📜 Professional Qualification
Applicants should possess a Diploma in Geology or Gemology awarded by the University of Moratuwa.
🔎 Duties
The Geology Assistant will be responsible for documenting and maintaining goods and specimens belonging to the Geology Division and ensuring their safety under the responsibility of the Assistant Director (Ethnology).
⚡ Technician (Electrical) – Qualifications
🎓 Educational Qualifications
Applicants for the Technician (Electrical) post should have:
- Passed the G.C.E. (Ordinary Level) Examination in six subjects at one sitting.
- Credit passes in Sinhala/Tamil/English Language, Mathematics and two other subjects.
- Passed two subjects at one sitting at G.C.E. Advanced Level under the Science/Mathematics stream, including two subjects from:
- Applied Mathematics
- Pure Mathematics
- Combined Mathematics
- Chemistry
- Physics
- The Common General Test is excluded.
🛠️ Professional Qualification
Applicants should have acquired competency in Electrical Engineering at NVQ Level 5 or above, as determined by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC).
🔧 Duties
The Technician (Electrical) will assist museum heads with electrical maintenance work, supervise electrical work, repair and maintain the micro-film system and CCTV system in the auditorium when breakdowns occur, and perform other duties assigned by the Head of Department.
👤 General Qualifications
Applicants must:
🇱🇰 Be a citizen of Sri Lanka.
✅ Be of excellent character.
💪 Possess sound physical and mental fitness to serve in any part of Sri Lanka and perform the duties of the post.
🎂 Age Limit
Applicants should be:
18 years or above and not more than 30 years of age as at the closing date of applications.
💰 Salary
The posts carry the following monthly salary scale:
💵 Rs. 52,250 – 10 × Rs. 800 – 11 × Rs. 1,190 – 10 × Rs. 1,320 – 10 × Rs. 1,350 – Rs. 100,040
The salary scale is applicable under MN-1-2025, in accordance with Public Administration Circular No. 10/2025. Salary will be paid from the effective date of appointment according to the provisions of the relevant circular.
📝 Examination Details
Recruitment will be carried out through a written examination and a general interview.
The written examination consists of two subjects and will be conducted in Sinhala, Tamil and English. The examination medium selected cannot subsequently be changed.

🧠 Intelligence Test
The Intelligence Test consists of 40 questions designed to test:
- Logical reasoning
- Analytical ability
- Decision-making capacity
📚 Subject-related Technical Test
This is a multiple-choice question paper consisting of:
- 15 General Knowledge questions
- 25 questions related to the relevant field
For the two posts, the relevant areas are:
🪨 Geology Assistant: Geography and Petrology
⚡ Technician (Electrical): Basic electrical engineering knowledge, equipment and relevant technical methods.
🏢 Terms of Appointment
✔️ The posts are permanent and pensionable.
✔️ Officers are required to contribute to the Widows’ and Orphans’ / Widowers’ and Orphans’ Pension Scheme.
✔️ The appointment is subject to a three-year probation period.
✔️ Officers recruited to Grade III must pass the First Efficiency Bar Examination before completing three years from the date of recruitment.
✔️ Proficiency in the official language must be acquired within the prescribed period.
✔️ The appointment is subject to the applicable Public Service Commission rules, Establishments Code, Financial Regulations and departmental orders.
