📌 Railway Engine Driver Assistant Grade III Exam 2026

The Sri Lanka Railway Department has called applications from eligible Sri Lankan male citizens for the Open Competitive Examination for Recruitment to the Railway Engine Driver Assistant Grade III.

Applicants must be between 18 and 35 years of age as at 28 September 2026. The Gazette specifies that applicants born on or after 28 September 1991 and on or before 28 September 2008 are eligible, subject to fulfilling all other requirements.

🎓 Educational Qualifications

Applicants are required to have passed the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination in one sitting with six subjects, including:

• 🔬 Science
• 📖 One additional subject

A credit pass is required for the specified subjects according to the Gazette notification.

🛠️ Professional Qualification

Applicants must also possess a certificate for successfully completing a 2½-year technical course recognized by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission.

🏆 Selection Procedure

Candidates who obtain the highest marks and pass the written examination will be called for an interview.

The interview does not carry marks. It is used to verify the qualifications stated in the application and assess physical suitability. Recruitment will be made according to the merit order of the written examination and the number of vacancies available at the time of recruitment.

The fee can be paid at any People’s Bank branch so that the payment is credited to the account specified in the Gazette by the closing date.

The application should be prepared on A4 paper according to the page arrangement specified in the notice. Applications prepared by computer or typewriter may also be used.

✍️ Certification of Applicant’s Signature

The applicant’s signature on both the application and examination admission card must be certified by an authorized person specified in the Gazette, such as an appropriate school principal, Justice of the Peace, Commissioner for Oaths, Attorney-at-Law, Notary Public, authorized officer of the armed forces, gazetted police officer, or an appropriate staff-grade government officer.

🎫 Admission Card & Examination

Only applicants who submit correctly completed applications, pay the required examination fee and satisfy the relevant requirements will be issued admission cards.

Applicants must produce the admission card to sit the examination.

Applicants must sit the examination at the examination centre assigned to them and submit the properly certified admission card to the supervisor on the first day they appear at the examination centre.

🚆 Training After Recruitment

Selected Railway Engine Driver Assistants Grade III will undergo a three-month training period from the date of recruitment.

The training will include both practical and theoretical training relevant to the duties of a Railway Engine Driver Assistant.
