๐ŸŽ“ Educational Qualifications

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum educational requirements:

  • Must have passed at least six subjects at the G.C.E. Ordinary Level (O/L) examination.
  • Must have obtained at least two credit passes.
  • The required results must have been obtained within no more than two attempts.

The Gazette does not specify prior work experience or professional qualifications as mandatory entry requirements. However, additional qualifications and relevant experience may earn marks during the structured interview.

Additional Educational Qualifications โ€“ 30 Marks

Marks may be awarded for additional educational qualifications, including G.C.E. Advanced Level passes other than the General Common Test, diplomas, equivalent or higher qualifications, and recognized certificate courses, according to the criteria in the Gazette.

Professional Qualifications and Training โ€“ 25 Marks

Marks are allocated according to the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) level obtained:

  • NVQ Level 2: 5 marks
  • NVQ Level 3: 8 marks
  • NVQ Level 4 or above: 12 marks

The Gazette also specifies marks for relevant recognized professional training.

Relevant Work Experience โ€“ 30 Marks

Applicants may receive 5 marks for each year of relevant work experience, up to a maximum of 30 marks. The experience considered includes work in mechanical engineering-related fields such as welding, soldering, machining, foundry work and carpentry in government or private institutions.

Relevant experience must be supported by acceptable certificates.

Extracurricular Activities โ€“ 10 Marks

Marks may be awarded for provincial-level and All-Island sports achievements and for holding school student leadership positions, according to the Gazette’s criteria.

Interview Performance โ€“ 5 Marks

Up to 5 marks may be awarded for the skills demonstrated during the structured interview.
