The Sri Lanka Police has announced applications for recruitment to the position of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) โ€“ Male/Female, under the Sub-Service and on a secondment basis.

๐Ÿ’ฐ Salary Details

The Gazette states that the monthly salary scale for the position is:

๐Ÿ’ต Rs. 82,150 โ€“ 10 ร— Rs. 2,400 โ€“ 8 ร— Rs. 2,940 โ€“ 17 ร— Rs. 3,900 โ€“ Rs. 195,970

The relevant salary code is SL 1 โ€“ 2025.

For 2026, the amount payable according to the relevant salary circular is stated as Rs. 74,438, while the amount payable from 1 January 2027 is stated as Rs. 82,150.

๐ŸŽ Additional Allowances

The Gazette also lists the following allowances:

Applicants must satisfy the educational requirements relevant to the professional position for which they apply.

๐Ÿ’ป Information Technology

Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a degree in which Computer Science has been studied as a subject, from a university recognized by the University Grants Commission.

An equivalent qualification recognized by the University Grants Commission may also be accepted, subject to the requirements specified in the Gazette.

Applicants should possess a four-year full-time degree in Architecture from a university recognized by the University Grants Commission and the relevant professional architectural body, or an equivalent recognized qualification.

The Gazette specifies a four-year full-time degree in Electrical Communication Engineering or Electronics, from a university recognized by the University Grants Commission and the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka, or an equivalent recognized qualification.

Applicants should possess a four-year full-time degree in Civil Engineering from a university recognized by the University Grants Commission and the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka, or an equivalent recognized qualification.

Applicants should possess a four-year full-time degree in Electrical Communication Engineering or Electronics, from a recognized university, or an equivalent qualification recognized by the relevant authorities.


๐Ÿ… Professional Qualifications & Experience

๐Ÿ‘ท Engineering Positions

Applicants for Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Electrical & Communication Engineering positions must have Associate Membership or Corporate Membership of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka.

๐Ÿ’ป Information Technology

Applicants should have professional experience as a computer engineer in one of the specified areas, including:

  • Computer software
  • Computer database systems
  • Computer network systems
  • Computer-related fields

The Gazette requires at least three years of relevant professional experience.

๐Ÿ›๏ธ Architecture / Building Design

Applicants should have Associate Membership or Corporate Membership of the relevant professional architectural association.

โณ Required Experience

For Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Building Design and Electrical & Communication Engineering positions, applicants must have at least three years of experience in the relevant field after obtaining the degree, at a recognized institution.


๐Ÿ“ Physical Requirements

Physical requirements apply to all positions.

Applicants must be physically and mentally fit to perform duties and serve in any area of Sri Lanka.

๐Ÿ‘จ Male Applicants

  • Minimum height: 5 feet 6 inches
  • Minimum chest measurement: 32 inches when fully expanded

๐Ÿ‘ฉ Female Applicants

  • Minimum height: 5 feet 4 inches

The Gazette notes that the Inspector General of Police may exercise discretion regarding these height and chest requirements for applicants possessing special qualifications and expertise.

Applicants must meet the specified eyesight requirements, including vision between 6/6 and 6/12, with or without spectacles or contact lenses, and normal colour vision.

Recruitment will be based on the results of the structured interview, background investigation and medical examination.

Candidates with satisfactory background reports who pass the medical examination will be considered for recruitment according to vacancies and merit.

The Gazette specifies these five areas for the structured interview, with a total of 100 marks.


๐Ÿ”Ž Background Investigation

Candidates who qualify for recruitment will undergo a background investigation to verify their good character.

The investigation may consider the character and conduct of the applicant, close relatives and people closely associated with the applicant. Applicants with adverse background reports will not be recruited.

โš ๏ธ Providing false information during the recruitment process can result in disqualification. If false information is discovered after appointment, the appointment may be terminated.


๐Ÿฉบ Medical Examination

Selected applicants must pass a medical examination conducted by a medical board, including the Director of the Police Hospital.

Applicants will also undergo physical and mental fitness assessments to determine their suitability for police duties.

The Gazette states that applicants who fail the medical examination cannot appeal the result.

Applicants who successfully pass the background and medical examinations will be selected according to the merit list and available vacancies.

Selected candidates will be called for training on a date determined by the Inspector General of Police.

The training will be conducted at the Sri Lanka Police College.

The letter must contain the signature and official seal of the head of the institution and confirm that the applicant is currently employed and can be released from service if selected for the position.
