๐ The Department of Examinations, Sri Lanka has officially announced important details regarding the G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) Examination 2026. Candidates are advised to collect or download their admission cards on time and carefully check all information before the examination.
Whether you are a school candidate or a private candidate, here’s everything you need to know.
๐ G.C.E. (A/L) Examination 2026 Dates
๐ Examination Period
- ๐๏ธ Starts: 10 August 2026
- ๐๏ธ Ends: 05 September 2026
Candidates should prepare well and ensure they receive their admission cards before the examination begins.
๐ซ Admission Cards for School Candidates
๐ซ School candidates do not need to download admission cards individually.
- โ Admission cards have been sent to the relevant Zonal Education Offices.
- โ School principals should collect them from the Assistant/Deputy Director of Education (Examinations).
- โ Schools must distribute admission cards to students without delay.
๐จ Admission Cards for Private Candidates
๐ค Private candidates have two options:
- ๐ฎ Admission cards are sent by post to their registered address.
- ๐ป Candidates can also download their admission cards online from 24 July 2026.
๐ How to Download A/L 2026 Admission Card
Follow these simple steps:
- ๐ Visit the official Department of Examinations website.
- ๐ Access the Admission Card section.
- ๐ Enter the required details.
- โฌ๏ธ Download and print your admission card.
โ๏ธ Correction of Admission Card Details
If your admission card contains incorrect information regarding:
- ๐ค Name
- ๐ Subjects
- ๐ Medium
You must:
- โ Submit corrections online.
- โ ๏ธ Only one correction attempt is allowed.
- โ Examination centres cannot be changed.
๐ Last Date for Corrections: 03 August 2026 (12.00 Midnight)
๐ชช Accepted Identity Documents
Candidates must bring one of the following original identity documents:
- ๐ National Identity Card (NIC)
- ๐ Valid Passport
- ๐ Valid Driving Licence
Without a valid identity document, candidates may not be allowed to sit the examination.

Only non-programmable calculators are permitted for:

- ๐ฑ Biosystems Technology
- ๐ฌ Science for Technology
๐ซ Government School Candidates
Government school students are not allowed to sit the examination as private candidates. Doing so is considered an offence.
