🎓 The Department of Examinations, Sri Lanka has officially announced important details regarding the G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) Examination 2026. Candidates are advised to collect or download their admission cards on time and carefully check all information before the examination.
Whether you are a school candidate or a private candidate, here’s everything you need to know.
📌 G.C.E. (A/L) Examination 2026 Dates
📅 Examination Period
- 🗓️ Starts: 10 August 2026
- 🗓️ Ends: 05 September 2026
Candidates should prepare well and ensure they receive their admission cards before the examination begins.
🎫 Admission Cards for School Candidates
🏫 School candidates do not need to download admission cards individually.
- ✅ Admission cards have been sent to the relevant Zonal Education Offices.
- ✅ School principals should collect them from the Assistant/Deputy Director of Education (Examinations).
- ✅ Schools must distribute admission cards to students without delay.
📨 Admission Cards for Private Candidates
👤 Private candidates have two options:
- 📮 Admission cards are sent by post to their registered address.
- 💻 Candidates can also download their admission cards online from 24 July 2026.
🌐 How to Download A/L 2026 Admission Card
Follow these simple steps:
- 🌍 Visit the official Department of Examinations website.
- 📄 Access the Admission Card section.
- 🔍 Enter the required details.
- ⬇️ Download and print your admission card.
✍️ Correction of Admission Card Details
If your admission card contains incorrect information regarding:
- 👤 Name
- 📚 Subjects
- 🌐 Medium
You must:
- ✅ Submit corrections online.
- ⚠️ Only one correction attempt is allowed.
- ❌ Examination centres cannot be changed.
📅 Last Date for Corrections: 03 August 2026 (12.00 Midnight)
🪪 Accepted Identity Documents
Candidates must bring one of the following original identity documents:
- 🆔 National Identity Card (NIC)
- 🛂 Valid Passport
- 🚗 Valid Driving Licence
Without a valid identity document, candidates may not be allowed to sit the examination.
🚫 Important Examination Rules
Candidates should strictly follow all examination regulations.
📵 Electronic Devices Are Prohibited
Do NOT bring:
- 📱 Mobile Phones
- ⌚ Smart Watches
- 🎧 Bluetooth Devices
- 💻 Electronic Gadgets
Violations may result in:
- ❌ Five-year examination ban
- 📦 Confiscation of devices
- ⚖️ Legal action
📚 Examination Misconduct
The following actions are punishable offences:

- ❌ Copying or receiving assistance
- ❌ Possession of notes
- ❌ Misbehaving inside the examination hall
🧮 Calculator Policy
Only non-programmable calculators are permitted for:

- 🌱 Biosystems Technology
- 🔬 Science for Technology
🏫 Government School Candidates
Government school students are not allowed to sit the examination as private candidates. Doing so is considered an offence.
